The Farm

Finca La Virgen in the biological corridor to the National Park Piedras Blancas.

The Finca La Virgen lies at the foot of the headwaters of the Rio Esquina at 600 m above sea level with the coordinates 8046'37.30 "N and 83010'11.00" W in the southern rainforest of Costa Rica. From here, the biological corridor begins to Rainforest of the Austrians. The property is at the heart of a 14ha large protected part primary and secondary rainforest. From here, the pilot projects are managed in this area. In detail: rainforest protection, reforestation projects (reforestation of meadows), the production of organic compost with earthworms, a nursery for reforestation projects, seedlings for greenhouses, pepper cultivation and ponds for freshwater fish (tilapia). All projects serve once the climate and on the lives of local residents improve.
One of our main projects is to protect the headwaters of the river Rio Esquina. We are with the finca between the two main river arteries of the Rio Esquina. There are a total of 350 ha. 95 ha are located directly above the house with the protected 14 ha of rainforest. We are working closely with the Rainforest of the Austrians and La Gamba Field Station, University of Vienna. The German Embassy in Costa Rica has already supported us in several projects
